A device that transfers heat from one fluid to another without mixing them, at the core of boilers, recovery units and many HVAC components.
What does a heat exchanger do?
A heat exchanger transfers thermal energy from a hot fluid to a cooler one without letting the two mix. In a hot water boiler, it carries heat from the combustion flue gases to the heating system water; it is also found in recovery units, fan coils and many other HVAC components.
Why does the exchanger drive efficiency?
Transfer effectiveness depends on the exchange surface, the temperature difference between fluids and the cleanliness of the walls. Fouling on the water side or the combustion side degrades efficiency and raises consumption. Monitoring the exchanger’s condition is therefore a key part of operation and preventive maintenance.
Which exchangers support heat recovery?
Some equipment adds an exchanger dedicated to energy recovery. This is the case of the condensing boiler, whose secondary exchanger captures the latent heat of flue gases. Material selection and resistance to corrosion or acidity must remain consistent with the manufacturer’s instructions and applicable requirements.
